E-Mail Forwarding Service for Life

E-mail Logo

Beginning with the class of 2003, all graduating seniors may forward their current CSUN student e-mail address to an off-campus e-mail service provider (such as AOL or Earthlink) for a seamless transition of messaging service after graduation. E-mail sent to your old student account will be automatically forwarded by the university to your off-campus e-mail account. Friends who have your old Cal State Northridge student e-mail address can still use it to locate you after graduation! May graduates have until December to activate this service before student accounts are purged from the university system. Once your account is purged, you cannot activate this forwarding service. This service is free and open to all graduating seniors, regardless of membership in the Alumni Association. If you are a member of the Alumni Association and you don' t have an off-campus e-mail service provider, you can get one for free through the Association..

All you need to do to activate the forwarding service is log in to your campus account and provide us with your your off-campus e-mail address. You can perform these functions by using the Campus Account Maintenance Tool at www.csun.edu/account.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What if I don't have an e-mail service provider?
You must have an off-campus service provider to initiate this service. AOL and Earthlink are a few of the larger and more popular national service providers as well as programs through your local telephone company. There are also a number of free web-based e-mail providers such as Yahoo and Hotmail. Your current employer may also allow you to use your business e-mail address for forwarding.

You can also choose to join the Alumni Association and get a free alumni e-mail account with your membership. Click here for details.

What if I change e-mail service providers?
It is the responsibility of the user to update their e-mail address information with the university through our self-service Web site. If your service provider changes, you will need to access www.csun.edu/account and key in your new e-mail address. You can change providers as often as you like.

What if I change service providers and forget to notify Cal State Northridge?
E-mail will continue to be forwarded to the e-mail address on file until it is returned to sender by your service provider. Once an e-mail is bounced back, an administrative warning e-mail will be sent by the university to the address on file to confirm that it is no longer valid. Invalid accounts will be purged after three attempts. Once your old student account is purged, you cannot resume the forwarding service at a later date.

How long will this forwarding service last?
Although campus polices and technologies do change, there is no planned termination date for this service. As long as the address information on your account remains valid, you will continue to receive forwarded e-mails.

How is my e-mail address used by the university?
Your name, address, phone number, e-mail, college and year of graduation may be used by Cal State Northridge for the development of university-affiliated marketing programs, benefit offerings, and invitations to programs and events. If you do not wish to have this information assigned to these purposes, please notify the Office of Alumni Relations at (818) 677-2137 or at alumni@csun.edu.
